Eaglecrest Alaska Missions Update
Sutton Alaska is roughly 15 miles from the nearest substantial city with a church. The nearest town is Palmer, in this town there a couple of small churches that hold small congregations. The church in Sutton is currently owned by a smaller church is Palmer that has voted last week to sell the church in Sutton to cover operating costs of their own church due to the hard economy in Alaska. This has been a topic of much debate in Sutton and for anyone associated with Eaglecrest as that is where we have Sunday worship, bible school, community food bank, community garden, and is really the only central gathering point in the community. This church houses large game processing equipment that is used by many to process their harvest with the communities help. Over the years Eaglecrest has donated thousands of dollars and countless volunteer hours making the church into the building that it currently is. An older gentleman from the community left 10,000 dollars to remodel the church and for upkeep. This town is in need of a church and I would hate to see it sold. Now I understand that God has a plan for everything and we just need to wait and see where he is leading us, but I feel as if the church is sold Eaglecrest might be able to fill the void. On our campus we have a large “Memorial Building” that is used to house the campers in the upper level and the lower level is storage and maintenance area. If all else failed and we needed to find a meeting place for the small congregation we could potential create a make shift place of worship on our campus. This would take time and a fairly decent chunk of money to get it done, along with finding a place to store all the tools and materials currently housed in this building. I guess all we can do is pray for a solution and watch Gods plan unfold. I ask that you continue to pray for this matter and that answers will be given soon.
